Private Martin Evans

 

The background of this man is not known at present.

Martin Evans enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Antrim on 16 November 1916 (No.2313). He was described as being 5' 9½" tall, with a ruddy complexion and black hair, and with two toes of his right foot and his left little finger missing. He gave his age as 29, his place of birth as Claremorris, County Mayo, and his occupation as a clerk.

Just seven days later he deserted from the regiment's Antrim reserve depot. It is not known if he was ever apprehended or returned to duty.
